Sea turtles - Braamspunt (Feb-Aug)
During a beautiful sunset on the beach, you will be spotting sea turtles laying eggs during the hatching season.
---
Head out in the evening to spot the sea turtles, a must-see for anyone visiting Suriname!
Braamspunt is a sandbank on Suriname's coast. It is an important laying beach for sea turtles.
The trip starts in the afternoon by bus/taxi to Leonsberg and a boat ride to Braamspunt beach. The sea turtles come to the shores of Braamspunt from Brazil and sometimes even from Canada. There are two kinds of turtles: the soup turtle and the leatherback.
On the beach, there is time to stroll, paddle and enjoy the sunset. Then, we will have a Surinamese meal for dinner while enjoying a drink or two.
When it is dark, you will walk along the beach with a guide to look for the turtles. You’ll see the turtles coming ashore and laying eggs before heading back to sea.
The trip ends around midnight. Therefore you will be brought back to your guesthouse, residence or departure point. On this tour, you must wear dark clothing, and you are not allowed to use white lights. Instead, the guide will bring a red light.
